The White Stuff Continued
In our previous post, we showed that Gwen does not like the snow… at all. She dislikes it so much that she seems to have forgotten that she is housebroken! We’ve tried taking her out much more frequently, but no luck, she just won’t go outside! Has anyone experienced this? What did you do? We’re not sure what to do. Also, is there a limit to how much pug paws should be outside on the snow and ice? They won’t wear booties and I don’t want them to freeze their feet.
I’m busy with finals and a crazy case of eye strain so I haven’t been getting a whole lot done. Here are at least a few photos from the weekend.

Believe it or not, we have this problem too! Unless I have to go REALLY bad, I refuse to go poos in the snow so mom has to shovel the snow off the grass so I can see green. Yup, it looks so stupid but mom does whatever works and this does work for us! You’re smaller dogs than I am so maybe your mom won’t have to shovel as large an area! Hope this helps!

My Pugs know how you feel they don’t like the cold snow onder their paws or belly either…The pick one foot up at a time and hop as they try to go potty…and their whoskers get heavy from the snow sticking to them.

My pug has a problem going #2 in the snow as well. She’s better able to handle it if we go and clear a spot for her. We just go outside and brush off all the snow in a particular spot and take her directly to the grass spot. She then knows that she’s supposed to do and gets it done faster. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the suggestions. We cleared snow from a patch in the yard previously, but right now it’s basically a giant block of ice and we can’t clear a spot.

My pug is almost 10 and we’ve had this issue ever since we brought her home as a wee pup… so unfortunately it probably won’t go away “once they’re used to the snow.” The suggestions above about clearing a space in the snow so they see green has worked for us also. If your backyard isn’t shared, you could try leaving a small tarp or garbage can lid on the grass so whatever new snow (or ice) won’t cover the grassy spot. It’s a good idea in theory, but if your pugs are like mine, they’ll want to use a different spot each time. I just have to grin and bear it in the winter… the usual 5 minutes in/out becomes 20 minutes of dragging the dog away from the front door so she’ll focus and just do her business.
Also, we do use booties. My pug gets so sad and pathetic if her paws are uncovered for more than a few minutes out in the snow. She picks them up and licks them, starts hobbling around… sometimes she even fakes it just to go inside… honestly! I suggest getting them used to the booties. It’s the only thing that’ll help that. I prefer the fleece ones that have an an elastic strap that velcros tight. I found that the harder/plastic-y boots just wouldn’t stay on her feet. We also have a coat for her on those very cold days. Good luck! It’s no fun when you’re out there freezing, too, knowing they have to go and won’t! I totally empathize!

Mom has to shovel in the backyard for us. Lucky will walk over snow, I am a little more particular. Mom had two pugs before us and she used to bring them in the garage. Bridget would pee against the tire of moms’s car and poop near the garage door. Bridget did not mind snow so much, but rain? Forget it. She would turn around and go right back in the house. Sort of like me. hee hee As for the feet. Lucky picks up one at a time and mom knows it’s time to go in. But that is only after Lucky has done her business. Lucky is good that way.

again I just have to tell you that your Christmas Card is so AWESOME! I took a picture of it and now have it as my desktop on my laptop! My pugs aren’t happy about that obviously…but I they will have to deal with it..LOL

Potty Training…. What’s that? We live in Colorado and have 2 pugs and 2 labs. Our black female pug also hates to go outside to potty. The training pads seem to work well for her. However, our male pug has decided to mark his territory and also doesn’t like to go outside to potty. When you find a solution, please post. We need help. :)
